12/9/2023 0 Comments Cube pro cartridge weight![]() As you’ll see, the S3 B deserves its own spotlight.Īt $499 (all prices in USD), the S3 B’s price skews toward the entry-level segment of the market-some of the phono stages we review at SoundStage! Hi-Fi sit comfortably in the four-figure range. In fact, I was so enthusiastic about the phono stage that I asked Gentec to send it to me again so I could review it on its own. However, as much as I liked the turntable, it was the Phono Box S3 B that most surprised me, with its combination of great sound and remarkable feature set. The X2 B’s good looks and clean, neutral sonics made it an easy recommendation. To remedy that, Gentec International (Pro-Ject’s Canadian distributor) provided me with a Phono Box S3 B phono stage and Connect it S mini XLR cable so I could evaluate the X2 B and S3 B in both single-ended and balanced configurations. Since it came premounted with an Ortofon Quintet Red MC, I was mostly set up, except for one thing: I don’t own a balanced phono preamplifier. The “B” indicates that the turntable can be run in a balanced configuration, provided the tonearm is fitted with a moving-coil cartridge (MC cartridges are inherently balanced). Last year I reviewed Pro-Ject Audio Systems’ X2 B turntable for SoundStage! Hi-Fi. Note: for the full suite of measurements from the SoundStage! This was my first thought during the test and also my last. As often happens during the tests of the various devices, it is easy to come across projects that fail to offer a quality vape in MTL mode, but this is not the case, indeed it is the opposite, an excellent device in MTL, slightly lacking in air for the restricted DL vape. Final remarks:Īspire, as we have seen, has prepared two types of coils for the AVP PRO, these are also compatible with the new AVP-Cube subject of this test.Īspire claims to "thus embrace both types of MTL and DL vaping. The Mesh coil works fine, but it probably needs a further adjustment of the AFC even more open. With this configuration we can talk about a very contrasted DL vape. Things improve dramatically by switching to the 8-hole configuration. Even using 4 holes an optimal yield is not obtained, the steam emitted is quite hot and of limited quantity. Its reactivity to fire is remarkable, the steam takes on higher temperatures than the previous one, so it does not seem suitable for 0 and 2 hole adjustments. In this case, the Mesh coil works only in By-pass mode, the user's only concern will therefore be to adjust the AFC according to their needs. 0,65Ω Mesh-Coil (15-18 W)Īccording to Aspire, this coil should offer a Resctricted Flavor vape. Using the AVP-Cube with this coil, the setting was found to be optimal for a real MTL vape, the operation is truly flawless, fluid and regular, the steam emitted always remains at more than acceptable temperatures. ![]() Of course I also tested this coil with larger AFC openings and with higher wattages, but the impression is that with this coil you always remain in the MTL vape, even at 16W with 8 open holes. The coil seems to have been created specifically for this use, fantastic! Contrary to what one might think there are no operating irregularities or condensation formations, not even with such a low air ratio. This will greatly please MTL vape purists I'm sure. ![]() ![]() With all the air-flows closed (0 holes) the puff is very constricted, a very dry and clear suction stop is reached after a short suction, with relative smack of the lips! It is adjusted by the chipset, through 2 clicks, you can then choose the power delivered, the red LED corresponds to about 10W, the blue to 12W, the green to 14W, the white to 16W, these power steps can be combined with four different ones degrees of opening of the air-flow 0 holes, 2 holes, 4 holes, 8 holes.
